Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy

In occupational therapy, our team helps children and adults of all ages with neurological disorders, developmental conditions, and other diagnoses live their lives to the fullest.

Our Services

Occupational therapy offers a wide variety of services.

Pediatrics

Evaluation and treatment for various pediatric diagnoses (e.g. developmental delay, pervasive developmental disorders, ADHD, autistic spectrum disorder, Asperger’s, cerebral palsy, and autism).

Cognitive Retraining

Treatment addresses difficulties that impact all aspects of money management, instrumental activities of daily living training, and higher-level problem solving/safety concerns.

Visual Skills Training

Treatment addresses problems associated with visual neglect and/or a visual field cut related to stroke or brain injury. Goals are to improve safety and awareness in surroundings, improved reading skills, and improved instrumental activities of daily living performance.

Neuromuscular Re-Education

Re-education and coordination, balance, movement, and proprioception that impacts most neurological diagnoses.

Brain-Train

Cognitive software that looks at many areas for rehabilitation following stroke and neurological changes. It also focuses on attention and processing skills in pediatric patients.

Upper Extremity/Arm Retraining

Treatment addresses weakness and/or increased muscle tone incorporating use of the BTE work simulator, Bioness H200, SaeboFlex or Reach; fine and gross motor retraining; and improving bilateral arm use for increased independence with activities of daily living.

Dynavision

Occulo-motor training device that assesses processing skills with visual and motor response time that correlates with driving. Allows for balance training, functional arm use, and attention to task.

Wheelchair Evaluations

Assessment for fitting, training, and potential need for manual or power wheelchair.

Activities of Daily Living Training

Addresses difficulties with all aspects of activities of daily living (bathing and dressing, feeding, cooking/meal preparation, handwriting, low vision, typing/computer use) using adaptive equipment and strategies.

Bioness H200

Functional electrical stimulation for the upper extremity facilitates active and passive movement, improving grasp/release, decreasing pain and/or softening muscle tone following a neurological impairment, and/or weakness from an injury. It’s appropriate for stroke, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, incomplete spinal cord injury, and generalized hand weakness.

LSVT® BIG

LSVT (Lee Silverman Voice Training) BIG is an exercise program for Parkinson’s patients that helps keep patients moving during everyday activities. It’s a research-based program that can help patients improve their balance, walking, and ability to perform daily activities more independently and safely.

Vestibular Rehabilitative/Balance Retraining

Balance retraining related to loss of balance, decreased balance reactions, and difficulty with gaze stabilization.

Arthritis Education

Treatment and education specific for arthritis that impacts daily living skills, such as fluidotherapy, paraffin, and adaptive equipment education.

Interactive Metronome

Brain-based rehab assessment and training program developed to improve processing abilities that affect attention, motor planning, and sequencing. Diagnoses that have benefited include brain injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, incomplete spinal cord injury, and pediatric diagnoses (e.g. sensory integration disorder, ADD/ADHD, cerebral palsy, Asperger’s, autism spectrum disorder).

Driver’s Rehabilitation

Clinical assessment for visual scanning, cognitive, and processing abilities followed by an on-road assessment in an independent driver’s vehicle. We are the only facility with a trained Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist who is also an occupational therapist.
